PHOTO of the WEEK – Blue Door

After a couple of weeks of intense post, and more than a few all-nighters, the Hootie and the Blowfish video for “One Love” is NOW FINISHED! The video was shot completely over green screen and all the background elements were created by yours truly with my good friend Jonathan Richter. It was a lot of hard work, but the band was great to work with, incredibly nice and tons of fun. It makes directing a video SUPER easy when the band and label are so on board.

Straight from Vegas, here’s the new Jeff Bates video for “Good People.” I had an absolute blast working on this piece, from writing the original treatment to the actual shoot. The crew and actors were incredibly patient on this 16 hour day. Of course, I always love working with Wade from RCA, and had more fun with Jeff than should be legal. He is an amazing guy, and it’s always a treat to find somebody who has as twisted a sense of humor as myself. hehe.
Even better, the last day we were in Vegas, Randy and I were checking out of the Hilton and stopped to throw a couple of dollars in a slot machine, and I ended up winning $1,000! At first, we were acting like total inbreds because we thought I had won $10,000, but alas, it was only a mere $1,000. SWEET!

Shooting this video was a pretty interesting experience. We shot in an abandoned prison that had been taken over by the birds . . . literally. There was bird crap and corpses all over the place! In some areas of the old machine shop we shot in, there were piles like a foot high of the stuff and after we’d finished up I was hacking up pigeon crap for atleast three days. I guess that was one of those “suffering for you art” moments.
Other than shooting in Tweetie’s toilet and family graveyard, the shoot couldn’t have gone any better. The prison definitely gave me that creepy vibe I was going for. I was also incredibly pleased with all the falling debris, etc. created in 3D during post. The walls really looked like they were falling around the band, and I was VERY excited with the end result. It’s one of my favorite pieces I’ve directed thus far. I, of course, can’t leave out Randy and Norman on this one. As always, they worked their asses off. Norman really showed me that he could get super freaky/dark . . . and he seems like such a sweet guy on the surface. Hmmmm, it’s always the quiet ones. Freak or not, I’m addicted to the Bonney!
HEYO everybody, and welcome to my new site! I’ll be working on it in the next few weeks so please keep coming back and checking it out! THANKS!
